Your Questions, Answered
-
Counselling is a supportive space where you can talk openly, feel heard, and explore what’s been going on in your life. Whether you’re facing a specific challenge or just feeling stuck, it’s a place to gain clarity, build coping skills, and move forward in a way that feels right for you.
Your first session is a chance to get to know your counsellor and share what brings you in. Your counsellor may ask you questions about your/your child’s mental health, background, relationships and goals for counselling. You can go at your own pace, and there’s no pressure to have everything figured out. We’ll also review how counselling works, including confidentiality, and make sure your questions are answered.
Most importantly, the first session is about seeing if the connection feels like a good fit and helping you feel comfortable getting started.

Finding the right fit is an important part of the counselling process. You’re welcome to explore our clinician profiles to get a sense of each counsellor’s approach, areas of focus, and who they typically work with.
If you’re not sure where to start, we’re happy to help. Feel free to reach out, and we can support you in finding a counsellor who feels like a good fit for you or your child.

When working with children and teens, we see parents and caregivers as an important part of the process. The level of involvement can vary depending on your child’s age, needs, and comfort level.
In general, there may be opportunities for parent check-ins, collaboration, and sharing strategies to support your child outside of sessions. At the same time, we also want to create a space where your child feels safe to share openly. Your counsellor will talk with you about what this balance looks like and keep you informed along the way.

A standard 60-minute session starts at $150. Fees may vary depending on the clinician and their training and areas of focus.
Session fees are adjusted based on length (e.g., $75 for a 30-minute session).

The number of sessions can vary depending on your goals, preferences, and what you’d like support with. Some people come for a few sessions to work through a specific concern, while others choose to continue longer-term for ongoing support.
You and your counsellor can check in regularly about what feels helpful and adjust the pace and frequency of sessions as needed.

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. This means you won’t be charged if you let us know 24 hours in advance that you’re unable to attend your appointment.
Cancellations made within 24 hours may be subject to a fee, as that time has been set aside specifically for you.

We recommend checking with your insurance provider to see whether counselling services are covered under your plan. These services may also be listed as psychotherapy or mental health services.
Some of our clinicians offer direct billing. Please check with your counsellor to see if this is available.

Yes, what you share in counselling is confidential. This means your counsellor won’t share your information with others without your consent.
There are a few important exceptions required by law, such as if there are concerns about your safety or someone else’s safety. Your counsellor will review these limits of confidentiality with you in your first session, so you know exactly what to expect.
